W26-30. Wood Diptych German Sun Dial Wood Diptych German Sun Dial, Unsigned, probably late 1700's to early 1800's, printed and hand painted scales somewhat faded and in fine condition, string gnomon intact as are the delicate brass fittings with one exception. On the front cover is a list of the latitudes of forty eight European cities, plus "Bofton" and "Neu York" and of special note "Philadelphia" marked in the margin. An arrow on the compass face indicates a magnetic deviation of 20 degrees west. The glass covering of the compass has a fine collection of flattened air bubbles as one would expect from an older instrument. A very nice and delicate piece complete with worm holes. Overall dimensions 5/8 x 2 1/2 x 4 inches.
